Meet the people who will teach you
Our team holds international certifications to teach English as a foreign language, business English and teaching methodology.
Each teacher is carefully selected to reach the agreed goals within the estimated time, with modern techniques adapted to the way you learn.
What our students say
We could say a lot of things. Better to see for yourself what people who already study with us have to say.
Everything you need to know
Can't find your question? Message us and we'll answer.
I know absolutely no English. Can I sign up?
Of course. All our courses are personalized and we adapt the plan to your level, whatever it is, so you really make progress. If you're starting from zero, you don't need to take the Level test.
I've studied English somewhere else. How do I know my level?
With our Level test (Placement Test). With your results, we place you in the right cycle if you take group classes, or adapt the materials to your level and goals if you take one-to-one classes.
The test is required if you're a new student with prior knowledge, if you stopped studying with us for more than 4 months, or if you simply want to know your level.
What do I need to take the Level test?
- Stable internet over wifi or cable (minimum 4 Mbps).
- Preferably a PC or laptop for the written test. The spoken test can be taken on your phone with Zoom.
- Camera, headphones and microphone.
- A quiet place without interruptions.
- Your ID document at hand, to show at the start.
During the test, the platform doesn't allow other tabs to be open.
How do I request the Level test?
Write to info@monkeyspeaks.com to request it. Then send the payment receipt to the same address and we'll confirm the date and the steps to take it. The result is valid for 4 months.
What is the student–teacher intro class?
It's a spoken class with your teacher to get to know each other, assess your goals and identify your level. You ask your questions, tell us what you expect from the course, and with that we build your study plan. It costs S/ 50.
When do classes start?
One-to-one classes start whenever you want. Group classes follow each cycle's start dates and the availability of places.
Who chooses my schedule?
In one-to-one classes you choose your schedule based on your teacher's availability. Classes are booked at least 12 hours in advance.
Group classes have fixed schedules by level, and you choose the one that suits you best before the cycle starts.
Where are the classes held? Are there in-person classes?
Classes are on Zoom: from your phone or tablet (App Store or Play Store) or from your computer at zoom.com.
For private classes you can also choose the place: your home, your office or online, subject to availability.
What's the class content like?
It depends on the program. In one-to-one classes the content is adjusted to the goals and timeframe you told us in the intro class. It can be 100% conversational, focused on grammar or reading, or comprehensive with all four skills.
What's in the virtual classroom?
We send a link and an access code to the email you signed up with. In the classroom you'll find each class's materials, audio, mock exams and guided speaking and writing practice to review between classes.
You can work with a digital book for the whole cycle, with online exercises, or with materials adapted to the way you learn.
What are the lives and workshops in the events calendar?
They're extra activities outside your classes: live streams on TikTok, Zoom workshops (pronunciation, for example) and conversation clubs. You register beforehand to join. Students join free; everyone else can pay for the session separately.
Can I study at my own pace, without a schedule?
Yes. With the course subscription you study asynchronously: whenever you want and at your own pace.
Do you teach other languages besides English?
Yes. Besides English, we teach Spanish for foreigners and prepare you for the DELE (A1 to C2) and the SIELE. We also teach other languages: message us and we'll tell you the options.
Which international exam suits me?
It depends on what you need it for. IELTS Academic and TOEFL are usually required for studying abroad; IELTS General, for migration; TOEIC, for work. The Cambridge exams (KEY, PET, FCE, CAE) are widely accepted by universities in Peru. If you're learning Spanish, the DELE and SIELE certify your level.
Our exam guide explains each one in more detail.
What is exam preparation like?
It can be one-to-one or in a small group. First we look at your specific needs and then train each section of the exam: we work on your weak points and build on your strengths.
Besides prep classes and graded mock exams, you get access to writing, listening and conversation workshops to build confidence, especially for the speaking interview.
What are assessments like? What if I fail?
It's not about passing or failing here. Assessments help us spot what needs reinforcing before moving on, so the follow-up is much more personal. If you're consistent, you shouldn't have any problems.
How much do classes cost?
We work with hour packs: Bronze (8 h), Silver (15 h), Gold (24 h) and Bonus (36 h). Message us and we'll send you the prices of the packs and exam preparation, and help you choose based on your goal. The intro class costs S/ 50. See what each pack includes in the packs section.
If I can't attend, can I reschedule?
Yes. If you give at least 12 hours' notice, you can reschedule your class without any problem, on any pack.
If you miss a class without notice or arrive late, you can redeem 5 Banana Points for an attendance wildcard and reschedule the class without losing it.
What are Banana Points?
They're points you get when you buy your pack: Bronze 5, Silver 10, Gold 15 and Bonus 20.
- 5 Banana Points equal 1 attendance wildcard, to cover an absence and not lose the class.
- If you don't use them, you can use them as a discount on paid workshops or groups.
- They don't accumulate: they're valid while your pack is active and don't carry over to the next cycle.
Can I give my classes to someone else?
No, classes are non-transferable. They're also subject to schedule availability.
I stopped studying at Monkey Speaks. Can I come back?
Of course! If more than 4 months have passed, you'll take the Level test again, especially if you take group classes.
Do you have programs for companies?
Yes. We offer general English by level following the Common European Framework, business English for real work situations and private classes for employees. Write to info@monkeyspeaks.com and we'll put together a proposal for your team.
Do you work with schools and educational institutions?
Yes. We advise on the curriculum, train teachers in methodology, prepare groups for the Cambridge exams and implement English teaching with our teachers and academic structure.
Can I study with my partner or my children?
Of course. Write to info@monkeyspeaks.com and we'll tell you about the options and benefits for studying as a family.
Shall we start?
Message us, tell us your goal and we'll build your plan. We answer all your questions before you start.
