PETB1 Preliminary
It certifies that you get by easily in everyday situations: understanding emails, announcements and conversations, and giving your opinion.
What is the PET?
B1 Preliminary, known as PET, shows an intermediate level: you can handle the usual situations when traveling, understand the main points of texts and audio on familiar topics and express your ideas clearly.
- Students who need to prove a B1 at school or university
- Those who are going to travel or live for a while in an English-speaking country
- Those who want an intermediate step before the FCE
Exam format
Results and level
Results are reported on the Cambridge English Scale. Between 140 and 159 you get the B1 certificate (grade B or C); between 160 and 170, grade A, which corresponds to B2-level performance.
What level do you need? Intermediate (B1). If your English is rusty or you're not there yet, we first strengthen it and then train for the exam.

Is there a version for school students?
Yes, B1 Preliminary for Schools, with the same format and topics designed for teenagers.
